Of all the breakfasts we assemble, the ones going to a man are the ones that come back half eaten. Not because the food is wrong, but because it usually gets built on the wrong logic: too much sweet, too small a portion, too much decoration. This guide is what we learned fixing that.
Savoury wins, almost always
The ratio that works is the reverse of the usual one: two thirds savoury, one third sweet. A ham and cheese croissant, a sandwich, empanadas or an arepa with something on top get eaten completely; a tower of cupcakes gets left halfway. Sweet works as the closer, not the main course. If you don't know what he prefers, a sandwich is the safest bet there is.
Portion matters more than presentation
This is the most common mistake. A beautiful tray holding three bites reads as a nice gesture, not as breakfast, and if he was going to eat anyway he ends up having something else half an hour later. For an adult man, plan something that genuinely fills: one large savoury portion or two medium ones, fruit, and a normal-sized drink rather than a little cup.
What to avoid
- Flowers inside the tray: they take up room and plenty of men find receiving them at the office awkward. If you want the floral gesture, a single eternal rose beside the tray works better than a bouquet on top of the food.
- Too many balloons: one or two is fine. A full arch turns the delivery into a performance, and not everyone wants that at work.
- Hot drinks: coffee arrives lukewarm unless the delivery is minutes away. Fresh juice or something cold travels better.
- All sweet: we said it already, but it is the number one cause of half-eaten breakfasts.
Ideas by who he is
For your boyfriend or husband, add something that outlasts the meal: a personalized resin piece with a photo or a date, or a small gift box beside the tray. The breakfast gets eaten; the keepsake stays.
For your dad, generous savoury food with no ornament is what lands best. For a friend or coworker, think shareable: a hamper with savoury snacks gets opened at the desk and puts nobody on the spot. For a birthday, that's when the balloon and the big card earn their place.
The hour is half the gift
A surprise breakfast that arrives at ten in the morning is not breakfast any more. If he leaves for work at seven, the tray needs to be at the door around 6:15. We deliver 24 hours a day in Medellín, so you pick the time, but for anything before 8 a.m. it is worth confirming the day before. If the address is in Bello or another municipality in the metro area, the route is longer and we set off earlier.
How we put them together
We assemble surprise breakfasts delivered in Medellín from $45,000 COP, with the savoury ratio described above if you tell us it is for a man. Message us on WhatsApp with the address, the time and the occasion, and we confirm availability. We also deliver in Envigado, Sabaneta, Itagüí, Bello and La Estrella.
Frequently asked questions
What goes into a surprise breakfast for a man?
Two thirds savoury and one third sweet: a sandwich, ham and cheese croissant or empanadas as the main item, fresh fruit, a normal-sized cold drink and something small and sweet to close. An adult portion, not a tasting plate.
Is savoury or sweet better for a man?
Savoury, in our experience by a wide margin. Mostly sweet breakfasts are the ones most often left half eaten. Sweet works as the closer, not the base.
What time should a surprise breakfast be delivered?
Before his day starts. If he leaves at 7 a.m., delivery should be around 6:15. We deliver 24 hours a day in Medellín, and for slots before 8 a.m. we ask you to confirm the day before.
